THE HAUGHTINESS OF HUMANISM

#1) Defining the problem.

A) Tonight we will be looking at humanism.

Lets begin by defining humanism according to the humanist.

Humanism is: A joyous alternative to religions that believe in a supernatural god and life in a hereafter. Humanists believe that this is the only life of which we have certain knowledge and that we owe it to ourselves and others to make it the best life possible for ourselves and all with whom we share this fragile planet. A belief that when people are free to think for themselves, using reason and knowledge as their tools, they are best able to solve this world's problems. An appreciation of the art, literature, music and crafts that are our heritage from the past and of the creativity that, if nourished, can continuously enrich our lives. Humanism is, in sum, a philosophy of those in love with life. Humanists take responsibility for their own lives and relish the adventure of being part of new discoveries, seeking new knowledge, exploring new options. Instead of finding solace in prefabricated answers to the great questions of life, humanists enjoy the open-endedness of a quest and the freedom of discovery that this entails. • The Humanist Society of Western New York

Humanist was founded on the belief that there is no God, which they still hold and profess to this day.

Humanism holds atheism as there biggest and most important doctrine.

Now lets see what Gods word says concerning this belief.

Psalms 14:1 God says that these people are fools.

It’s interesting that God likens these people to fools considering their roots.

Humanism began had it’s roots in the Renaissance age.

Renaissance is a French word and means “re-birth”.

Isn’t it interesting that a belief which send people to hell has coined as its phrase “re-birth”?

The Renaissance began in the fourteenth century; it’s when artistic, social, scientific and political thoughts changed.

B) Humanists have taken the knowledge that began in the fourteenth century and created a God denying belief system.

During the Renaissance as science progressed people began believing they needed God less.

This way of life has progressed until we have come to the point where we are today with the humanist.

It began as a self-relient belief that God wasn’t needed to the point today that they teach that God isn’t real.

Those beliefs and teaching continued into the nineteenth century.

The more recent leaders of this belief were Charles Darwin the father of evolution.

Karl Marx the father of atheistic Communism.

And Sigmund Freud the father of “modern psychology.

All 3 of these men have one thing in common they were all atheist.

These are the elitist who have elevated themselves and feel as though we simpletons cannot think for ourselves.

Here is a direct quote from Sigmund Freud, “God is merely a projection of the childish wish for the protection of an all-powerful father. Religion is an attempt to master the sensory world in which we are situated by means of the wishful world which we have developed within us as a result of biological and psychological abnormality."

These are the men that the world says are some of the most advanced and intelligent men of recent times.

Daniel 12:4 God has told us that knowledge would increase.

It’s these same men that God call’s fools because they say he doesn’t exist.

C) Why would anyone want to believe that God doesn’t exist?

Without God a person is freely justified to do what they please.

If a person believes God does exist then he must also believe that God has standards that must be followed.

We will look at this more in a moment.

In order to deal with this problem the humanist is also a strong atheist.

According to the “Humanist Manifesto” written in 1933 they claim there basic belief to be that God does not exist.

John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”

Psalms 19:1 Remember this verse as we read another that is similar.

Romans 1:20 The creation clearly shows and reveals that God does exist.

The biggest problem that the Humanist has is there denial of Gods existence.

Psalms 14:1 “The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God”

#2) Evolution, Moral Relativism, Autonomous Man and NOW.

A) It’s easy to see using Gods word that the very creation declares that God does exist.

This being true what would be the natural next doctrine that the humanist would proclaim to be true?

The theory that naturally flows form atheism is evolution.

If God does not exist than there is no creation by design.

We all know that the theory of evolution presents itself in what they call the Big Bang.

Genesis 1:1 “in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”

The incredibly complex planet and the amazing complexities of life simply could not be an accident.

Evolution on earth apart from the big bang theory is alone unexplainable.

Sir Fred Hoyle, scientific astronomer and former evolutionist, calculated the odds of life accidentally forming on earth as one times ten to the forty-thousandth power.

That’s a one followed by forty thousand zero’s which is statistically impossible when combined with the big bang theory.

Evolution is very simple to defeat when in discussion because evolution goes against what we see around us.

The very word “evolution” means the process in which things are advancing.

We can see this both in positives and negatives when a person’s cancer evolves it is in the negative.

Most view evolution as moving forward to a greater more advanced stage which isn’t always so especially when considering LIFE.

The truth is that all life is decaying and is all destined to die.

Evolutionists believe that man is getting better and stronger and more advanced with time.

Yet today we suffer form more disease than ever before.

Today we see that mankind is constantly growing wicked and defiled to greater degrees than ever, this is all a result of sin.

Simply put the very creation of God declares an intelligent designer not an explosion or slim that became life.

Atheism and evolution are needed so their next doctrine can be justified.

B) That doctrine is called “Moral Relativism”, this means that man can decide on his own what is right and wrong.

If there is no God and everything that exist has happened by chance then no outside force can determine what’s right from wrong

They believe that sometimes an action may be wrong for a specific situation but it’s not always wrong for all situations.

They call this “Situational Ethics” in other words certain situation require one set of ethics while another may not.

This is in direct conflict with Gods word; the Bible gives absolute standards of right and wrong.

The humanist along with many others today love the saying…

“The only absolute truth is that there are no absolutes.”

One absolute that all will face is that without Jesus as your savior you will go to hell.

The humanists believe man is basically good; he’s morally upright all on his own.

They believe man can do all that life requires with no help from a God who doesn’t exist.

We actually have an example in the scriptures of this way of thinking.

Luke 12:16-21 What does Jesus call this person in V20? FOOL

These are those who believe they will never have to answer to anyone.

His very actions will require his life; likewise the actions of the humanist will require his life.

Yet the humanist says, “I only have to answer to myself”

They decide what is right and wrong, they only answer to themselves and no one else.

Romans 14:11-12 All will one day answer to God.

Their belief of “Moral Relativism” naturally leads into their next doctrine.

C) That doctrine is called “Autonomous Man”.

This is similar to Moral Relativism yet it goes even farther.

Let me give you the definition of the word autonomous.

Autonomous: Not controlled by others or by outside forces; independent in mind or judgment, self-directed.

It comes from the root word Autonomy that means SELF LAW.

Judges 17:6 “right in his own eyes”

The problem with the Autonomous Man doctrine is that it naturally leads to anarchy.

If I determine what right and wrong for me it may not be the same for you.

This naturally means that at some point the two will meet in a conflict.

When first “Humanist Manifesto” was written in 1933 it made claims that “all mankind possessed a natural goodness”.

It was only a few years latter that WWII came and 6 million Jews were killed.

Adolph Hitler could be labeled as a self-governing man who did that which he determined to be right.

The idea that man naturally possesses goodness is as unbiblical as can be.

Romans 3:23 ALL MEANS ALL.

It is simply a lie from Satan that man even has the potential of goodness apart from Jesus.

Our natural state is that of a sinner who without Jesus will only become more deprived as time goes on.

The humanist contradict all that God’s word says concerning man and eternity, it is simply promoted as a belief system of love and peace.

Listen to the definition directly from the American Humanist web site.

What is Humanism?

As Kurt Vonnegut succinctly described: being a Humanist means trying to behave decently without expectation of rewards or punishment after you are dead.
Humanism is a progressive life stance that, without supernaturalism, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good of humanity.
