SINNER'S BY NATURE, BY CHOICE & BY PRACTICE

#1) It’s time to own up.

A) Genesis 3:8-19 As familiar as we all are with this account we still to this day don’t fully understand what happened that day.

1) On that day the single greatest tragedy that has ever occurred took place.

2) Genesis 3:13 “…What is this that thou hast done?”

3) This wasn’t a simple question asked with calmness…

4) Adam and Eve placed God in the horrible position of having to condemn them to death.

5) We simply don’t know or understand the degree of love that God has for mankind…

6) But just try to imagine having to sentence your spouse or child to death because of someone’s disobedience.

7) We truly don’t understand what took place that day in the garden.

8) When God said in V13 “What hast thou done?” he knew that from that very moment death, pain and suffering began.

9) This morning I want to preach to you about three sad truths concerning sin.

B) Truth number one, every person alive is a SINNER BY NATURE.

1) Isaiah 64:6 This is a truth that we all need to acknowledge and accept.

2) As I prepared this sermon a question I have often had has finally been answered…

3) I sin even when I am asleep and have dreams that I shouldn’t because I am by birth and nature a sinner.

4) Sometimes thoughts will come into my mind that I shouldn’t have, that because by nature I am a sinner.

5) Ecclesiastes 7:20 “For there is not a just man upon the earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.”

6) Romans 7:18-21 If you are of the mindset that by nature you are a good person you're fully deceived.

7) Evil, wickedness, sin and filth are ever present in you, your mind and your life…

8) Galatians 3:22 It is the scriptures that have concluded we are all under sin not the preacher.

9) We must get it through our minds that we by our very nature are sinners.

10) By nature I am a man, I think like a man, I act like a man, I speak like a man that’s my nature.

11) We will all from time to time sin, we cannot be freed from that reality we are sinners by nature.

C) TRUTH NUMBER TWO, though we are all sinners by nature some are SINNERS BY CHOICE.

1) 1 John 2:1 Though we are by nature sinners we don’t have to be servants to sin.

2) We have the ability to choose not to sin but too often we make the choice freely and consciously to sin.

3) Just as this verse says we have the complete perfect word of God that tells us to sin not…

4) Ananias and Sapphira chose to sin knowing full well what they did was wrong.

5) David made a conscious decision to sin with Bathsheba by committing sin upon sin…

6) Those who forsake Gods word, who forsake assembling, are making the choice to sin rather than no to sin.

7) Ecclesiastes 7:29 Both the lost and saved have sought and thought out ways to willfully make the choice to sin.

8) David invented a way, Solomon invented ways, Ananias and Sapphira invented ways and so have we …

9) We have all made the choice to sin, but here’s the thing…

10) We all excuse away our choice to sin as an innocent action, as something insignificant.

11) THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN INSIGNIFICANT SMALL SIN.

D) We are all by nature sinners but if we continue to be sinners by choice we are headed for major trouble…

1) TRUTH NUMBER THREE, those who sin by choice will quickly become SINNER’S BY PRACTICE.

2) Practice: To do or perform habitually or customarily; make a habit of.

3) If you begin to make the choice to sin whatever the sin may be, with time it will become your practice.

4) And to make it clear sin is anything that is opposed to Gods word, contrary to His word…

5) It is anything we that we do that the Bible says we shouldn’t.

6) It is anything we don’t do that the Bible says we should.

7) There are both sins of omission and commission, simply put what sin is and is not isn’t a mystery…

8) We all know when we sin, and we all know if we are practicing sinners.

E) Micah 2:1 Lost or saved a person only progresses to this point because they have chosen to sin until they are practicing sin…

1) We can actually get to the point where we are studying and devising new ways to sin.

2) Don’t be fooled by thinking these types of people are evil and wicked because sometimes they aren’t.

3) Hebrews 3:12-13 “But exhort on another daily, while it is called To day, lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.”

4) Anyone can become hard hearted because of sin to the degree that we regularly and daily practice sin.

5) We can do nothing concerning the fact that by nature we are sinners...

6) But through Christ and the choice to follow him we can be free from the bondage of sin.

#2) Our new birth.

A) Romans 6:11-14 “…sin shall not have dominion over you…”

1) The victory over sin is ours through Jesus at the very moment of salvation.

2) Freedom from the influence of sin is ours when we allow God to be our influence rather than sin.

3) 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away: behold, all things are become new.”

4) I was born into sin but through Jesus I am a new creature and I don’t want those old ways in my life anymore.

5) Sin shouldn’t have dominion in the life of the child of God any longer.

6) We will still sin but sin shouldn’t have dominion and authority in our lives.

7) Romans 6:13 We have this verse from God as an affirmation that in fact we can yield to Him and not to sin.

8) God knows we are by nature sinners but he also knows that through Him we can serve Him while fleeing sin…

9) Every single one here today can make the decision to no longer choose sin.

10) You can choose to not swear, not steal, not skip out on church.

B) Romans 6:17-18 Anyone can be freed from sin to become a servant to righteousness.

1) I don’t fully comprehend or understand what happened that day in the garden when a terrible choice was made to sin.

2) What I do understand is the fact that God has delivered me from death and hell…

3) Just as the Bible says the truth has set me free…

4) The truth of my sinful nature and need to be saved.

5) The truth that daily I must choose not to sin.

6) God’s truth is clear, I don’t have to be a practicing sinner and neither do you.

7) Make the right choice today, turn from sin and turn to God.

8) Be set free from the bondage of sin and be bound to God.

9) Genesis 3:13 “…What is this that thou hast done?”

10) Just as God cried out to Eve that day in the garden He is crying out to some here today…

11) What will you do today with Jesus?
